Is Arctic Flame Glass sharp and is it dangerous to touch?
Fire-Glass is tumbled to remove any sharp edges and then it is washed to make it sparkle.
Can I use Arctic Flame Glass with propane or natural gas?
Yes to both. Just make sure when you purchase your burner pan you purchase the correct connection kit for the type of gas you are using. Depending on where you get your propane, propane can be dirtier than natural gas. You can always put your glass in a bucket and using a garden hose wash your glass off in a hurry. Note: allow your glass to dry complety before lighting your fire again.
What colors does Arctic Flame Glass come in?
Arctic Blue, Black Abyss, Cooper Kettle, Green Sapphire, Slate Gray, White Diamonds, Reflective Green and Rose Pedal. A lot of our customers like to mix colors to customize the look to fit their exact décor. Some even like to change out the color depending on the holiday, favorite sports team, school colors, or any special occasion. Just scoop out the glass and save it for later.
What is the reflective glass?
One side of our reflective green Fire-Glass has a mirror like finish on one side providing a stunning sparkle. Some people like to mix the reflective green in with other colors to create something really special!
Does Arctic Flame Glass ever burn or fade?
Fire-Glass will not burn, melt or discolor. It will not pop, create soot, ash or smoke either. No more messes to clean up!
Does Arctic Flame Glass produce more heat?
You bet! When using one of our burner pans with Fire-Glass it will radiate 3-4 times more heat with its reflective surface than wood or artificial logs.
Do I need really need a burner pan?
No but… our burner pan is designed for glass will provide a much better fame spread. Most log burner pipes have one row of flame holes while our burner pans have two or three flame pipes creating a much better look for your glass. Our burner pans will also provide better radiant heat without using more gas. By using our burner pans you get a better visual, more heat output and more sparkle.
Do I still need a screen in front of my fireplace when using Fire-Glass?
It’s time to remove the screen and the glass doors that have been blocking your view. Fire-Glass was made for use in fire and will not pop sending burning cinders onto your carpet like wood. There is also no smoke, soot or ashes emitted from Fire-Glass. Note: it is not recommended to remove any safety devices such as screen and doors if you have small pets or children. Some other brands of cheap glass can have air pockets in the glass causing them to pop or explode.
Can I use Arctic Flame Glass in a non-vented fireplace?
No. We do not recommend using non-vented fireplaces indoors.
My fireplace has a pilot light. Can I use Arctic Flame Glass?
A manual key controlled fireplace eliminates the need for a pilot that must always burn in order to ignite the fireplace when used. Also, with the manual valve you are able to cover the burner completely with glass. Some companies will tell you to cover the burner with a wire mess to keep the glass from smothering the pilot light. Beware, this is not a good idea and is not recommended. Consult your local contractor is your area for specific information on compliance.
How Much Arctic Flame Glass Do I Need? (Fireplace)
It is actually very simple to find out precisely how much Fire-Glass you will need. First you will need a tape measure, a flashlight and calculator.
The amount of glass for each fireplace varies depending on the size of the fireplace and fill depth. Measure and write down the width at the opening of your fireplace, the depth from the front to back, and decide on the thickness of Fire-Glass (3-4” on average) you would like. All measurements should be in inches.
Now using your calculator multiply the opening width X depth (front to back) X the glass depth (3-4” on average) and divide the total by 30. This will provide the total amount of glass you need. Since Fire-Glass is purchased in 33 lb units you need to round your answer up to the nearest multiple of 33. The average fireplace will need between about 2-3 units or 66-99 lbs of Fire-Glass. Some fireplaces may need more if they are larger than average or have a double-sided opening. Don’t worry about a little leftover there are many more exciting alternative uses for Fire-Glass.

Arctic Flame Glass Installation- Fireplace
Before we begin this would be a good time to clean your fireplace using a wire brush. If it has been awhile since you last cleaned your chimney you may want to contact a professional chimney sweep as well. The following instructions assume you have a gas line to your fireplace, if not stop now and consult a local plumber or an A/C/Heating contractor to have one installed. You should also consult with your local code department to learn about local gas codes concerning natural gas and or propane gas.
- Connect the burner pan to your gas line with the proper connection kit (propane vs. natural gas). The holes in the burner should be facing up (Propane is heavier than air and will settle downwards). Center the burner pan in your fireplace.
- Now youre ready to add the fire-glass. Start from the front and move towards the back. You will end up with about a 3-4" layer of glass. By tapering the front slightly you will help keep the glass in the fireplace.

Before we begin, there are many different types of fire pits. We offer some of the finest fire pits that are ready to begin enjoying as soon as they arrive. Some people would like to build their own custom fire pits. These custom fire pits can take on an endless array of sizes and shapes. We can’t begin to discuss all the different types of building materials and designs. We will assume you have your fire pit built and go from there.
The following instructions assume you have a gas line to your fire pit or you plan on using a portable propane tank. If not, stop now and consult a local plumber or an A/C/Heating contractor to have one installed. You should also consult with your local code department to learn about local gas codes concerning natural gas and or propane gas.
- Depending on the size of your fire pit you may want to pre-fill your fire pit with lava rock (from your local building supply store) before installing your burner pan. This is not necessary but if you need to fill a large pit this is a money saving idea.
- Connect the burner pan to your gas line with the proper connection kit (propane vs. natural gas). The holes in the burner should be facing up. Center the burner pan in your fire pit
- Now youre ready to add the glass. You will end up with about a 3-4" layer of glass. If you filled the base of your fire pit with lava rock you may need to “jiggle” your fire pit to allow the glass to settling in to the rock and then top it off with more Fire-Glass.
